Dates, hours and cost

The Helen Chamber of Commerce holds the market on two consecutive weekends. Here is what its event listing gives for 2026:

Admission is free. The listing places the market in downtown Helen on Main Street.

What you will find

The Chamber describes the market as handmade Christmas gifts and decorations, along with an assortment of sweets and treats. It does not promise a food court: for something savory, it sends visitors to the restaurants in town, of which the Helen visitor guide counts more than 35 in the area.

Helen calls it a Christkindlmarkt for a reason. The whole downtown was rebuilt in a Bavarian alpine style starting in the late 1960s, so a German-style Christmas market fits the street it sits on: painted gables, carved balconies and timber trim on almost every building.

Picking a weekend

The first weekend follows Thanksgiving and the Lighting of the Village, so it draws holiday-weekend crowds. The second weekend shares Saturday, December 5 with White County’s Christmas in the Mountains Celebration in Cleveland, about nine miles south, and with the first evening of Victorian Christmas at Hardman Farm. If you want to stack events, the second Saturday lets you shop the market in the morning, drive to Cleveland after lunch and finish at Hardman Farm by 4 PM.

Making the day easier

• Come early. The market opens at 10 AM, and parking downtown is mostly in pay lots that fill on busy weekends. See the parking guide.
• Dress for the mountains. Afternoons can be mild while the evening turns cold quickly; layers work better than one heavy coat.
• Bring a bag. Handmade ornaments and decorations travel better wrapped.
• Stay for dark. The village lights are the reason many people come; if you can, plan dinner in town and walk Main Street after sunset.
