Helen or Dahlonega for Christmas? Two Mountain Towns, One Parade Day

The short answer

Both towns light up on Friday, November 27, both run Christmas markets and both hold their parades on Saturday, December 12, 2026: Dahlonega's at noon and Helen's at 6 PM. That means you can see both parades in one day.

Helen and Dahlonega are the two North Georgia mountain towns people most often weigh for a Christmas day trip. They feel very different: Helen is an alpine Bavarian village on the Chattahoochee, Dahlonega a gold-rush town around a historic courthouse square. Their 2026 calendars, though, line up closely, and one date lets you skip choosing altogether.

The two-parade Saturday

On Saturday, December 12, 2026, Dahlonega’s parade runs from noon to 1 PM and Helen’s starts at 6 PM. That leaves the whole afternoon to drive between the two mountain towns, eat, and find a spot on Helen’s Main Street before dark. Helen’s organisers suggest watching from across the street from the Downtown Gazebo.

  • Late morning: park in Dahlonega and find a spot along the parade route around the square.
  • After 1 PM: lunch in Dahlonega, then drive to Helen.
  • Late afternoon: walk Helen’s Main Street while it is still light and park for the evening.
  • 6 PM: Helen’s parade, rain or shine.

If you can only pick one

Pick Helen if the look of the place is the point: a German-style market on a street of chalets is hard to match. Pick Dahlonega if you prefer a classic small-town square, a longer-running market (it spans December 5-13) and a daytime parade that suits young children. Either way, the Helen schedule has every date we have sourced for 2026.
