How downtown parking works
Parking in downtown Helen is mostly paid. The City of Helen publishes a city parking map showing its public lots, roads and landmarks; download it before you go so you know where you are heading. As an example of what to expect, the city’s electric-vehicle charging lot at 1180 Edelweiss Strasse lists $10 for parking on that page. Privately run lots near the shops set and post their own prices.
Because prices vary by lot and can change, we do not print a single rate. Check the sign at the lot entrance. For anything the map does not answer, the city office is at 706-878-2733, weekdays 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
On the busy days
- Christmas Market weekends (November 28-29 and December 5-6): the market opens at 10 AM. Arriving early in the morning is the easiest way to park close.
- Lighting of the Village (Friday, November 27): Thanksgiving weekend crowds plus an evening event. Give yourself extra time.
- Christmas parade (Saturday, December 12, 6 PM): Main Street is the route, so plan to walk in from a lot rather than drive along it.
- New Year’s Eve at the Festhalle on Edelweiss Strasse: the party ends at midnight, so stay nearby if you can.

Walking around
Once parked, you will not need the car again for the downtown events. The Helen visitors bureau describes the downtown as walkable, and the market, the shops and the parade all sit along Main Street and the streets just off it. Wear shoes with grip in case of rain and bring a light for the walk back after dark.
Parking questions
Where do you park in downtown Helen?
Mostly in paid lots. The City of Helen publishes a parking map of its public lots on its website, and privately run lots post their own prices at the entrance. On market weekends and parade night, give yourself extra time and expect to walk a few blocks.
